This is not your grandmother's sidesaddle riding

Welcome to the United Sidesaddle Society! USS has a fresh approach to the sidesaddle association concept. It's all about us - All of us! USS has its base, now it's time for member participation. We want USS members to help in deciding how USS can best support its members. (See "Announcements")

The Objectives of USS Are To:

promote sidesaddle as a modern riding method

act as a hub for disseminating sidesaddle information

take sidesaddle riding into the future

remember and draw from the history of sidesaddle

push the limits of what can be accomplished sidesaddle

educate our members

recognize and reward our members' accomplishments

recognize and reward our equine members' accomplishments

Most Importantly

have fun with ALL sidesaddle endeavors

USS is the brainchild of Mary Vanderloop. Mary's foundation for USS is built on how she felt other sidesaddle organizations could be improved. How many times have you said, "I have a better idea for (fill in the blank)."? Mary has taken that giant leap forward and established an arena for just such ideas.

USS welcomes, encourages, supports and recognizes ALL sidesaddle enthusiasts. Our members need not be seasoned professional riders. We value the efforts of novice and non-riding members as much as our riding members. And, we strongly feel being a participating member should not be an economic burden.

Women have come a long way since the invention of the sidesaddle and so has sidesaddle riding itself. Historical demonstrations are always great crowd pleasers. They help keep the past alive. We applaud the efforts of those who do these wonderful demos, and equally, we applaud the modern rider. USS is committed to taking sidesaddle into the future as a modern riding method.

We do not have preconceived notions of what should and should not be done sidesaddle. If it can be done astride it can also be done aside. We would like members who don't ride sidesaddle, never want to ride sidesaddle and/or we can't make ride sidesaddle, but enjoy the beauty, romance and mystery of the method. We also want riders who are historical re-enactors, elegant dressage riders, high powered saddleseat riders, brave hunters, beautiful western riders, courageous eventers and weekend trail riders. It doesn't stop there. Professional and amateur performers can make their mark with us. Freestyle, wild west, drill teams, and parade riders are all applauded here. If you do something out of the norm, we want to know about it and share it with our other members.
